Quick summary
This guide sets out practical steps to help you identify, compare and qualify for business finance in New Zealand. It is general information, not financial advice.
1. Bank Statement Assessment
When up-to-date accounts are not available, many lenders assess the business on its bank data instead, usually through secure bank statement retrieval or recent statements. Steady income, a healthy transaction count and a well-run account become the main evidence.
2. Trading History Still Matters
Low-doc lenders still want to see that the business has been trading for a reasonable period, and they will check the company on the Companies Office register (by NZBN or company number) or ask for trading details if you are a sole trader. Make sure your Companies Office record, including directors and registered office, is accurate and up to date.
3. Expect to Pay for the Convenience
Less documentation means more uncertainty for the lender, and that is reflected in the price. Compare low-doc offers with any full-documentation option you might qualify for, and treat low-doc as a bridge until your accounts catch up.
